    I analysed National Geographic

1)I think that the journal is for specialists, but also for others, who are interested in those subjects.

2)The language is understandable and not very difficult, but there are some specific words that aren´t familiar.

    3) I think that it is reliable, because the articles have been written by the specialists.
But I couldn´t find the main author, because there are so many authors, who publish their research and articles there.

4)It is quite easy to find things, because there is an information column on the left, where are the main categories. If you click on a certain subject, you will get another page, where are subcategories like texts and videos. There is also a "search bar".

    5) I like that the articles aren´t too specific so the texts are understandable for others, not only for the scientists. I also like that the the articles are thorough and the information is always updated. I don´t like that there are so few articles about the nature and animals.

6)Advertising was reasonable, but for me it was disturbing, because I usually don´t like ads.

    7) 2 terms:
    bloodshed-verevalamine
    unscathed- vigastamatud
    2 phrases:
    vanish species- hääbunud liigid
    perfectly intact-täielikult puutumata

  3. I analysed Online Journal of Veterinary Research (http://www.cpb.ouhsc.edu/ojvr/jvet198.htm)

    1) In my opinnion it is more ment for specialist because it is all about veterinary research and I think that pet owners, who do not have special knowlege, do not have anything to do with the information one can find there.
    2) In some parts it is easy to understand what the text is all about, but one deffinitely needs „special“ vocabulary to understand everything.
    3) I think that Online Journal of Veterinary Reaserch is very reliable because it currently has 26 scientific board members specialized in different areas of Veterinary Science. Submissions are usually reviewed by 2 board members or persons commissioned from outside institutions.
    4) For me, it is easy to find things there, because it has a serch engine. It also has an option where one can choose a year (one year is also divided into two parts) and look for reaseaches done this spesific year. Published articles are also permanently archived on the site so one can also look for older reaserches.
    5) I do not like that this site consists of links to other sites (so it just addresses one to the real text), but in a way that is also very good because it collocates different sites all together so one can only search one site to find multiple texts from various sources. I also did not like that one has to pay for many articles (it is because that original site is coin-operated).
    6) I did not find any advertising on this site or even if it exists there it is very unseeable.

    1) For specialists.
    2) Understandable.
    3) I think that the journal is reliable because authors are all specialists.
    4) It is. The system is simple and things are easy to find.
    5) I like that the pages are clear, they have pictures and versitile subjects. The sidebar has useful links. These things make it easy to use.
    6) Advertising is reasonable and doesn't disturb.
    7) 2 phrases:
Pancreatic adenocarcinoma is an uncommon disease in equids.
A 15-year-old female donkey was presented to Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic with a history of depression, weight loss, chronic laminitis over the past year and intermittend mild abdominal pain of 2 days' duration.

  5. CAMBRIDGE JOURNALS ONLINE- ANIMALS
    http://journals.cambridge.org/action/displayIssue?jid=ANM

    1. For specialist, requires some knowledge of bioscience.
2.Quite understandable but uses “fancy” words and topics are somewhat difficult.
3.I think it’s reliable because the authors and editors are leading edge professionals.
    4. It’s quite easy to find things. New topics are shown on the front page and in the sidebar tools for more advanced searches can be found. You can also submit your own articles.
5.I liked the versatility of the topics. I didn’t like the quite boring look of the page and the lack of photos. I think this takes away from the interesting articles. Also this page only gives the extracts free.
    6. There are no ads on this page.
    7. 2 terms: Transcriptional = põletikuline Robustness= jätkusuutlikkus
2 phrases: “There was no significant coherence between tail-biting piglets and the bitten ones indicating that the biters have no preference for biting particular pen-mates”

  6. I analysed the Journal of Veterinary Science.

    http://www.vetsci.org/

    1. I think it is for specialists, because it is very scientific and hard to understand.

    2. Language is quite difficult, the journal has a lot of special terminology, what makes reading complicated.

    3. It is reliable, because this journal is published in English by the Korean Society of Veterinary Science and all the authors are veterinarians or biomedical scientists.

    4. It is easy to find things, because on the main page, there are a list of categories what you can use to find some articles. Also it has a archive, where all the journals are separeted by years.

    5. I like the most that articles are easy to find and the page have a search engine. All the articles are in PDF format and you can download it if you want. But the articles are too specific and I don`t have enough knowledge to understand them.

    6. Advertising is very minimal.

  7. I analysed Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/10.1111/(ISSN)1939-1676/homepage/free_reviews_and_consensus_statements.htm

    1. I think that the magazine is for specialists because most of the articles handle different diseases and molecular cause for them.

    2. Even if there is special words, articles are quite understandable. However, without any knowledge of the subject it might be a bit difficult to understand the whole subject.

    3. This magazine is a official publication of American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, European College of Veterinary Neurology and European College of Equine Internal Medicine, so I think that it is reliable. The editors are also mentioned at the front page, as well as the writer(s) at the beginning of the article.

    4. In my opinion it is easy to find things. At the front page are the articles, which are free for reading ( if you want to read all articles you have to be registered to the sites). At the left side of the pages is more links to for example Society Information and News.

    5. I like these web sites because they are clear and the title of the article is immediately visible. At the front page is listed the top articles, but without being registered they can't be read and in my opinion they should be free for everyone.

    6. There is few advertisements on the side, but they are reasonable because the advertise other free publication sides.

  8. I analysed Vet On-Line - The International Journal of Veterinary Medicine.(http://www.priory.com/vet.htm)

    1. The journal is for specialists, because the articles are very delicate and thorough.

    2. The language is quite difficult, because the articles contain a lot of medical therminology.

    3. I can't guarantee, its reliable 100%, but the owners of this journal have a disclaimer that everything is made that the data and opinions are not misleading.

    4. Navigation is pretty simple, because the journal has a search engine and few advertisements.

    5. I like that some of the articles contain pictures and video clips, but i don't like the length of some articles - they're too short.

    6. Advertising is reasonable. The only advertisements are for other online journals.

  9. DVM Newsmagazine - Veterinary Medicine
    http://veterinarynews.dvm360.com/

    1. I think it's mostly for professionals, even though there are some things for owners as well. You don't need to register or pay to get to read the articles.

    2. The language is quite difficult, because it is very specific and contains a lot of medical terms, which makes it hard if you don't know any medical vocabulary.

    3. It's an american magazine. Sometimes there is the name of the author above the article, but mostly it just says DVM Newsmagazine, so I don't know how reliable it is.

    4. It's easy to find things. On the left side of the page you can find categories, which also have several subcategories if you click on one.

    5. I liked the equine-related articles most, because I find equine medicine very interesting. Especially an article related to horse breeding was interesting.

    6. There is quite a lot of advertisements, but not so many that it would be disturbing.

  10. I chose a site called Veterinary Sciences Tomorrow, http://www.vetscite.org/

    1. It seems to be generally for everybody who is interested in the articles, (but it’s said to be ’for scientists, academic teachers, graduate students and policy makers’), which vary from an article about naturally raised beef to standards for placebo. More for specialists, though, as most of the articles are generally about scientific researches.

    2. The language use is different for every article, some are rather easy, whereas others, which are more about medicine, are very specific and thereby hard to understand.

    3. The journal is from the Netherlands, Utrecht University, which is mentioned in the ’About VetScite’ section. In my opinion, that makes the journal reliable as the university is ranked the 50th best university in the world. The editor-in-chief is Professor Marian C. Horzinek and there also are two editors, Dr. Virgil E. Schijns and Dr. Anjop Venker-van Haagen

    4. The system was a bit confusing at first, but as you look around, it becomes quite easy. The main categories are on the top and as you hover on a category with the mouse, it shows the subcategories.

    5. I like the fact that the newest articles and researches are under the ’News’, which makes it easy to find them. I also think that having a subcategory on Education is a great idea.

    6. I personally did not find basically any advertisements at all, only a few small banners on the left side. Hence it is not disturbing as all, since it is said on the site that only those advertisements that are somehow connected to VetScite’s mission will be shown.

    7. Terms:

3.I think it’s very reliable. IVIS editors and authors are veterinary clinicians and scientists recognized nationally and internationally in their areas of specialty and are carefully selected.

4.There is a good search system. You can also specify if you want to search info from the books, journals etc. only. There is also an advanced search available where it’s possible to search with the exact phrase and so on. Only thing is that you need to sign up to read full articles.

5.I like that it is possible to get the articles in pdf format (although not all of them). And so far I have found all info I have needed from there.

  20. Vet On-Line - The International Journal of Veterinary Medicine.
    http://www.priory.com/vet.htm

    1. For specialists.
    2. The language is specific, difficult.
    3. The journal is international, but the company is situated in UK. „Priory medical journals“ is a network of inter-related biomedical journals, owned and administered by Priory Lodge Education Limited which is visited over 600,000 times a month – from this sentence I presume that the articles are reliable. There are no information about the authors, but I suppose they are veterinarians from all over the world.
    4. There is a search system to find articles. Normally the articles are not divided into thematic groups. They are just in a long list, which makes it difficult to find a specific article.
    5. All the articles are accessable without paying any money, which is good. I also like that there is a possibility to ask a question. And the answer comes with only few minutes, because there are 6 veterinarians online. However, you have to pay for the information ($9-$15).

  29. I analyzed American Veterinary Association's on-line journal ; www.avma.org/

    1. Journal is more for specialist. The articles are made for specialists and because you have to register to read most of the articles, I would say it is more for specialist than random pet owners.

    2. Language is quite easy to understand but ofcourse there is special vocabulary. I think some pet owners will have a hard time understanding it.

    3. I think the information is trust worthy because the journal is a journal of American Veterinary Association. Journal has it's own staff so it makes it more professional. Authors are veterinarians and other specialists.

    4. I think the navigation is quite easy. You just have to click "Journals" from the main page and then you click "read journal". Then you will have all the journal issues there in chronological order.

    5. I liked the articles; they were professional but still not too hard to undestand. I did not prefer so much the appearance of the web page, for me it was a bit booring.

    6. Advertasing was reasonable. Actually I think all the adverts were journal- related and more informative than disturbing.

  31. Journal of Veterinary Science

It is a journal for specialists (final year vet med students, doctors, scientists etc).

Language used in this magasine is very specific, but I would not say difficult. If one has a good medical dictionary and a litte bit of background knowledge of medicine then no problems should occure reading the journal.

It is an international journal indexed in the Thomson Scientific Web of Science, SCI-EXPANDED, Sci Search, BIOSIS Previews, Biological Abstracts, Focus on: Veterinary Science & Medicine, Zoological Record, PubMed /MEDLINE, Index Medicus, Pubmed Central, CAB Abstracts / Index Veterinarius, EBSCO, SCOPUS, AGRIS and AGRICOLA. This journal published by the Korean Society of Veterinary Science (KSVS) being distributed worldwide. It covers all the scientific and technological aspects of veterinary sciences in general, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, microbiology, pathology, public health, parasitology, infectious diseases, clinical sciences , alternative veterinary medicine and other biomedical fields. One could say, that Journal of veterinary Science is the reliability itself.

It is really easy to use the table of contents. It appears as usally after the title page and copyright notices. For even better navigation there are also indexes to be found on the last pages of journal.

I liked the seriousness of the journal. There was no advertising of some pills or companies etc. It was a standing tall - proud to be all scientific journal.

Advertising of the magazine itself tends to stay unnoticed -probably because it is advertised only in specific regions. An Average Joe is likely to be completely unknowing of the existence of this journal.

    Conception - eostamine
    Detrimental - kahjulik
Disk disease - lülisamba kestaste haigus
    Hepatocellular adenoma – healoomuline näärmekasvaja

  34. Home reading assignment

    1. I’ve chosen a book called: Textbook of veterinary anatomy (fourth edition). The authors are
Dyce, Sack and Wensing. The book is published 2010 by Saunders Elsevier.
    2. I choose this book, because I found it interesting. I think book is comprehensive and
reliable. I think I’ll need this book after my studies as well.
    3. I choose the chapter 9: The sense organs.
Sense organs help animals to survive in any environment. Eye is the organ of vision
and the eyeball can be separated into three different tunics which are: The fibrous tunic, The vascular tunic and the internal tunic. The eye has several adnexa which protects and moves the eyeball. Some examples of the adnexa are the orbital fasciae, the muscles of the eyeball and the eyelids and conjunctiva. The blood supply to the eyeball and its adnexa is complex. There are also several nerves in the eye for example the optic nerve, the oculomotor nerve and the trochlear nerve. The ear provides sense of balance and enables animal to hear. The ear is separated into external ear, middle ear and internal ear.
    4. Real pictures help understanding. The language isn’t hard but of course there are some unfamiliar words.
General appearance of the book is nice and clear.
    5. Vocabulary:
    Adnexa-külgorgan
